STUDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCES

Placements

ERIE MIDDLE SCHOOL

My first eight weeks were spent with the fabulous students of Erie Middle School in Erie, Colorado. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the classes were taught both synchronous and asynchronous with live Webex meetings. The host teacher and I covered art history, concepts and techniques with lesson prompts, discussion and self-reflection of completed works. Our focus was All Art Tells a Story, encouraging students to express themselves living through a pandemic through their artwork, utilizing what materials they had available in their homes.

RED HAWK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The second eight weeks were taught with a hybrid model, with half the class in person; half online. With the continued Covid pandemic restrictions, the challenge was the students using their own supplies, and then giving then asynchronous lessons to work on the days they were home. My host teacher used See Saw and Schoology to give students lessons for home access. This also gave those students who had to quarantine, access to alternatives. We covered illustrators, 3D stories in art, map making, imaginary creatures, brain mapping and identity letters.
